Would you die if you lost your entire family, or live for the only loved one you had gotten left?

 Review
Title: If i stay
Author: Gayle Forman
Published: 2009
Genre: Young adult
Pages: 272

17-year old Mia Hall lives her dream with her wonderful parents, little brother and her best friend. She is a excellent violinist and the music brings her together with her boyfriend Adam, who is a rock-musician. But one day Mia and her family gets involved in a car accident, which leads to that her whole family dies. She has no longer a mother, nor a father or little brother. Mia herself is somewhere between life and death. Only she can decide if she wants to stay with Adam and live without her family, or giving up and die so that she can not feel any pain. At the hospital, Adam holds her hand while sobbing, looking at her unconscious body as he begs her ’’Please Mia..stay.’’

The author of this novel has written in emotional perspectives, but also in a very beautiful way. Just as ’’The fault in our stars’’, this story proves that one second you might have almost everything, but then suddenly  your whole life changes when you need to struggle with something you really did not expect. It is evidently hard to get a disease and know that you can die at any time since you do not have any choice, but this type of story shows that it might not be easiest thing to have the chance to choose either. Hazel from ’’The fault in our stars’’ knows that her mother would be holding her hand as long as she lives, but what mother hand will Mia be holding if she choose to stay?

This is definitely one of the best books i have read. In some very few parts it was a little bit boring, but most of the story was just so beautiful, emotional and wonderful. It has parallel story because from the beginning until the end it shifts between looking back at Mia’s past and then turning back to now. I really like that idea since it gives the readers a chance to get to know her better; how she fell in love, slept with friends at the summer camp and how much her brother meant to her . I did cry through some of the parts in the book, and especially at the end, when she choose to..-

(Read the book to get the answer)

I also REALLY recommend the trailer for the movie of If i stayhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wH6PNeTy6Nc
